The Agatha Christie craze

Have you read any novels by the great English mystery writer Agatha Christie?? I have and I absolutely adore them! I will tell you how it all started..

One bright morning ( atleast 10 years back) my father and I set out for a book exhibition. It was a sort of ritual- if there was an exhibition in town we were sure to visit it. However I was not a total bookworm; I just loved browsing around bookshops and buying Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. So, there I was fooling around with my usual selection of books when we met a Professor who was my father's friend. Seeing the books in my hand, he suggested that it was time to try some novels by Agatha Christie. The name did not ring a bell, but anyway I decided to give it a try and randomly selected 'Hickory Dickory Dock'.

I read the book and was hooked. It was not her best novel, but it was one of the best books I had read! Lots of characters, lots of side plots and no way of guessing the killer! I have no idea how she came up with such great ideas!

I still have a few more novels to read( I am a very slow reader:-D). Yesterday I finished reading 'After the funeral' . Will give it four stars. The story is about a series of events after the funeral of a wealthy man named Richard Abernethie. It was a normal death and no one thought more of it (except for the inheritance)until his youngest sister, Cora Lansquenet blurted out 'But he was murdered, wasn’t he?.’ It was an absurd thing to say and it unsettled the minds of the family members.

Strangely, Cora is found murdered in her house the very next day...

What do you think? Isn't it exciting??

Moon goes super

Tonight was a big night what with the list of things happening to the moon. Blue moon, blood moon, super moon. Also it was the big night when people looked up from their smartphone to the skies just for a moment and took selfies with the 'superstar' of the night.

I was curious to know more about the event. So I opened the newspaper, which was an event in itself, and read about it. It seems the last time that these three events took place together was in 1866 March 31st.
And by the time it happens again, we will be in the netherworlds. The other facts I noted were these:

Blood moon- The moon takes on an orange tint due to earth's shadow during lunar eclipse.
Blue moon- The second full moon day in a month.
Super moon- The moon is closest to the earth.

At 6.30 we were gazing upwards with not a very clear idea of what was going to happen. But the moon did not appear. It seemed the moon was taking a long time to show its face. I thought lazily that there might be a hartal the …

Review of Malayalam Movie Nadodikkattu (1987)

Nadodikkattu is another one of my favourite Malayalam movie. This is indeed an all time classic comedy movie.

Movie: Nadodikkattu
Language: Malayalam
Genre: Comedy Written by: Srinivasan
Director: Sathyan Anthikadu
Cast: Mohanlal, Srinivasan, Shobana, Thilakan, Innocent
Sequels: Pattanapravesham, Akkare Akkare Akkare

Nadodikkattu is the story of Dasan and Vijayan, two simpletons who unknowingly (and knowingly) falls into one mess after another in their struggle to become something in their lives.

Dasan: (Played by Mohanlal) His catchphrase is ‘I am B.Com. First Class!’ He is so proud of being a graduate that he repeats it whenever there is an opportunity. You might think that he has a great job, but alas he is a peon in a private company which pays just enough salary to evade starvation.

Vijayan: (Played by Srinivasan) He is a very funny guy and more idiotic than Dasan. Dasan takes advantage of him a lot- like making him cook, do household chores and constantly reminding him that he is not a g…
